Gary Markle

Gary Markle is Canadian artist, educator, and doctoral researcher at Aalto University. He lives between Estonia, Finland and Canada.
His artistic practice uses expanded fashion as starting points to think about and discuss wicked problems. He has been using the myth of the Selkie — a being who can transform from seal to human and back again — to explore relationships with the waters of the world.
During the Godzilla residency in Lithuania and Poland he wanted to investigate the experience of being in the middle of the Baltic Sea surrounded by vast cyanobacteria bloom. He also did expeditions to the beaches, dunes and forests of Nida and Preila, experiencing the changing weather conditions, vegetations, and topography. During this time he worked with various forms of documentation: photography, writing and sketching.
