Summer 2024

Summer 2024

During summer 2024 Imagining Godzilla will travel a clockwise loop around the central Baltic Sea. We start at Örö island in South Western Finland immediately after midsummer. From Örö we sail to Klaipeda and Nida in the Curonian lagoon of Lithuania. We will then sail towards Hel and Gdynia in Poland. From Poland we head north across the Baltic Sea to Karlskrona in southern Sweden. After spending some days exploring this old city, we continue up the east coast of Sweden to Kalmar and Öland. We will visit various harbours on the island of Öland before heading further offshore to Visby on Gotland, and then on to Fårosund at the north of the island. Again, we will spend a few days exploring both Gotland and Fåro islands before heading to the small island of Gotska Sandön, a nature reserve in the middle of the Baltic Sea. Imagining Godzilla will then head back west towards Stockholm, stopping at some nature reserve islands in the archipelago, before continuing northwards and crossing over to Mariehamn, the capital of Åland. From here we travel through the Åland islands east, arriving first at the small island of Björkö, before continuing back to Finland and the Turku archipelago, to stop at the island of Seili and a visit to the marine research centre (Turku University) based on the island. From Seili we again head south east towards Hanko, the tip of mainland Finland, and continuing a little further to Tvärminne Marine Research Station of Helsinki University.
