Summer 2024
June 22 — August 13
During summer 2024 Imagining Godzilla travelled a clockwise loop around the central Baltic Sea. We started at Örö island in South Western Finland right after midsummer. From Örö we sailed to Klaipeda and Nida in the Curonian lagoon of Lithuania. We then sailed towards Hel, Gdansk and Sopot in Poland. From Poland we headed north across the Baltic Sea to Karlskrona in southern Sweden. After spending some days exploring this old city, we continued up the east coast of Sweden to Kalmar and Öland. We had a small stop in Oskarshamn on our way to Visby on Gotland. From Visby we went to Fårosund in the north of the island, and continued even more north to Fårö. We spent a few days exploring both Gotland and Fåro islands before heading towards Stockholm and stopping at Älgö in the Swedish archipelago. Then it was time to go northwards and cross over to Mariehamn, the capital of Åland. From there we travelled through the Åland islands east, arriving first at the small island of Björkö, and then even smaller island called Vitören. We continued back to Finland and the Turku archipelago, stopping first at the island of Nötö, and then at the island of Seili, where we visited the marine research centre (Turku University) based on the island, and took part in the Herring Day event. From Seili we again headed south east towards Hanko, the tip of mainland Finland, and continued a little further to Tvärminne Marine Research Station of Helsinki University.
