Anna Pekkala

Anna Pekkala is a visual artist and a sculptor from Finland. Her works are hybrids of dioramas in natural history museums and hardware stores. Popular culture, news images and horror scenarios inspire her, all of these combine with dark humor in her art. She works with varied hard and soft materials, with the scale changing from small to multi-meter works with movement and sound.

The sea is her great love and she spends a lot of time below the surface in her art.

Pekkala joined Godzilla during the summer 2024. She was looking for castaway materials to use in her upcoming exhibition at the Polygala Biennale at the Museum of Natural History. While gathering material for the sculpture, she collected trash from the sea shore – so as to give back something to the sea that gives her the material. Pekkala made a small disappearing artwork on the cliffs at Örö. A graffiti of sorts, made from seaweed so it will eventually fade away.
