During the residency, Camila will be working on a creative project that combines the Finnish tradition of lament singing/poetry with the ecological reality of the Baltic Sea. She is  planning to compose a contemporary lament that reflects the environmental degradation of the sea and how it affects the people who live around. She’ll be gathering stories from locals, learning about their connections to the sea, and documenting the journey to capture the landscapes and emotions tied to this place. Being onboard Godzilla will give Camila a chance to experience the Baltic Sea directly and let that inspire both the lament’s composition and future work exploring how people relate to the waters they live around.

“This is my first time interacting with the Baltic Sea, but I have always had a deep emotional connection to large bodies of water. I grew up on the central Peruvian coast, where the Pacific Ocean was a constant presence that shaped my sense of place and belonging. While the Baltic Sea is new to me, I approach it with a sense of reverence and curiosity, eager to listen and learn from those who have lived alongside it. I see this as an opportunity to build a connection through shared stories, environmental awareness, and the emotional resonance that water holds across cultures and geographies.”
