Santtu Laine

Santtu Laine a Helsinki-based multidisciplinary artist working with sculpture, photography, video, and sound. His work often explores the complex relationship between humans and nature, seeking to weave connections between the two. Currently, his research centres on bioplastics made from seaweeds, with the aim of reducing the ecological footprint of his art through the use of sustainable materials.

Laine is fascinated and worried by the underwater soundscapes of the Baltic Sea. Underwater noise pollution is something that is increasingly affecting marine ecosystems on a global scale. During his Godzilla-residency Laine recorded underwater videos and sounds while snorkelling at the Tvärminne research station.
